Cracked rim repaired

The tire shop I took the rim for repair had it done in less than 24 hours.

I was very surprised to get the rim back from repair so quickly.

I’m assuming due to the amount of weld material the repair required, a more then usual amount of weights had to be used. What’s odd I don’t recall seeing weights on the other front wheel. Now I will have to check and confirm it has been balanced.

I’ll have to keep an eye on this repair and perform more than normal periodic air pressure checks.

Slow leak, crack rim

Ever since the leaf spring cracked on the freeway hitting that uneven slab I was experiencing a slow leak on the left front wheel.

I thought an object had punctured my tire causing the slow leak issue. This morning I took the rim to a local tire shop. The worker found a crack on the inner side of the rim. This crack would eventually get larger if not repaired.

The owner of the shop had a place in Sacramento that did these type of repairs. I left the wheel to be sent out. Hopefully it will be back Monday.

Replacement leaf spring

I purchased a replacement leaf spring pack at the truck recyclers out in Rancho Cordova.

Turned out the 6 leafs can be fairly damn heavy. I will be taking it apart tomorrow and duplicate the configuration I currently have. I should have used penetrating oil and let it set overnight but I forgot to do that.

Taking apart the replacement leaf spring stack was straight forward. I did have a bit of concern that there would be a small amount of energy while being in the same position.

Replacement springs in place.

Snapped leaf spring

We were coming back from a car show event that we had a booth. This meant the bed was filled with our booth setup.

While going down interstate 5 the CaDually snapped a driver side spring.

From the photo you can see that the upper leaf spring snapped in the area where the U bolt is secured to the axle.

Tonight I sprayed PBlaster on the bolts and nuts so I can break it free tomorrow. I’m hoping to be able to reuse the U-bolts again if these are not in too bad of shape.

Oak Grove Car-show and Concert

We participated in another Lowrider car show that was held at the Oak Grove Regional Park. The vendor check in time was at 7pm. We typically will schedule our arrival time way before the public entry time. Getting gas and ice seems to be a regular task in the morning day of event.

Early morning setup.

We get to the venue so early we beat the organizer and the volunteers.
